Challenge: Create a poster that encompasses a musician's style and sound.
Skills: Photoshop, Illustrator
Product: A large scale poster designed to be displayed on a studio wall

Background Information
Pool Sounds is a musician based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their style is experimental indie, similar to Tame Impala. The poster is designed to highlight the musician and three of their most recent releases. This musician sent me an image of them playing at a concert, which I took as inspiration for this minimalistic piece.

Design Process
Photo: The photo that was sent to me was very low quality. The original photo was taken by an audience member in attendance at a show in an elegant venue. I wanted to work with the image, as it was an impactful photo for this musician, so I played to the strengths of what I was given. The colors and grain of the photo had almost a watercolor effect, so I brought it into Photoshop and experimented with blurs, colors, and texture until I got to the final effect I was looking for.
Typography: I typically do not use justified type unless I am looking for a very specific design effect. In this case, I found that the uneven spaces contained within the rectangular text box created an interesting visual effect that worked well with the smear effect in the photo.
Color Swatches: Adding the color swatches above the type gives the piece a "work in progress" feel. It allows the viewer to feel a part of the design process, which adds another element of closeness between the artist and audience.
Overlay: The texture overlay was added to give the piece more dimension.
